A Swansea man who swapped computing for conjuring is about to face one of his biggest challenges - performing for the likes of rock legend Alice Cooper, presenter Chris Evans and singer Ronan Keating. Richard Stone has landed the unusual job of entertaining the entertainers at the All Star Cup celebrity golf tournament this weekend.
And the West Cross wizard will be aiming to confuse, amuse and bamboozle the stars with his sleight of hand and trickery.
Amazingly, just a year ago the 24-year-old was stuck behind a desk with a nine-to-five job designing internet websites.
Some people may dream of running away and joining the circus, but last year the former Bishop Gore pupil decided to give up his London life and return to Swansea to pursue his ambition of becoming a full-time magician.
And he said he had not looked back since.
Richard normally earns a living fooling the bosses of top international companies like Siemens, Ernst & Young and Citigroup at corporate events, or entertaining the guests at weddings.
But now he is heading to Newport to entertain the A-listers taking part in the golf tournament.
The international event sees a team of European celebrities including Bruce Forsyth, Ross Kemp and football pundit Ian Wright take on a team of US stars including actor William Baldwin, former Olympian Michael Johnson and Desperate Housewives star Richard Burgi.
The televised tournament is being hosted by TV favourites Ant and Dec.
The Swansea magician said he had been interested in tricks since his childhood.
"When I was a kid I was given a Paul Daniels magic set and used to play with that," he said.
"Then one day when I was 15 a school friend showed me a trick where he made a handkerchief disappear.
"I wanted to know how it worked and I bugged him for weeks to tell me - in the end I said I would give him my dinner money if he told me.
"He showed me how it worked and I was fascinated and I wanted to learn more."
Richard specialises in what is known as close-up magic - small-scale tricks using objects like coins, watches and playing cards which are performed right in front of people.
"I love the close-up stuff," he said.
"I am fascinated by the mechanics of the tricks, the psychology and the misdirection used.
"It is very interactive and very personal - it is all happening before people's eyes.
"This will be the first celebrity bash I have done and I am really excited.
"It is a great opportunity for me."
And he said he had no regrets about leaving the cyber world for the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
"It was a big leap but it has paid off," he said.
"I love my job - I am very lucky. To me it is a hobby, not really a job. I get paid to do my hobby."
